Think of the crying in the club sounds of Robyn and the gothicism of early Lorde and you'll understand what new talent Jessica Winter is trying to do with her music. 'Chasing Nightmares' arrived this afternoon as another fragment of debut EP Sad Music, out this Friday.

Channelling pop's women - who have bent electronica to their will - Winter twists synths and guitars into a dark, starry alt-dance nightmare. You can almost see strobes slicing through the club as synths cut through the flickering air.

Industrial side-notes, mysterious vocals and triple-time percussion: 'Chasing Nightmares' has it all. Hear it:

A follow-up to April's title track 'Sad Music', 'Chasing Nightmares' is an even stronger statement from this newcomer. On her debut EP, coming Friday, Winter explained: "Music helps me realise that you are not alone that every one of us is capable of the best and worst feelings and actions in this world."

Debut EP Sad Music arrives 22 May via Roya.
