Fans of Foo Fighters have expressed their outrage after Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) announced plans to picket one of the band's gigs.
In a statement, the controversial church, which has previously picketed shows by Lady Gaga, accused Foo Fighters of using their position to promote “fornication, adultery, idolatry, fags”.
The band should, according to WBC, “ be using it to encourage obedience to God”.
Fans have reacted angrily to the planned protest, which is scheduled to take place at the Sprint Center in Kansas on September 16.
On Twitter, Nick Reilly wrote: “I've always hated Westboro Baptist Church, but when they plan to picket a Foo Fighters Show? That makes me f*cking furious.”
Another user, Tish Paice, said: “Westboro Baptists picketing a Foo Fighters show? Good luck with that you lunatics...”
Other fans called for singer Dave Grohl to confront the protesters.
On their official website, the Westboro Baptist Church said it would also be picketing the World Trade Centre on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
