Nintendo Wii U To Be Displayed At CES 2012

Nintendo will showcase the Wii U at CES 2012, as the company hopes to turn the negative tide of public opinion that has formed against the first of the next-gen consoles.

The Japanese giants unveiled the Wii U at E3 2011, which, rather than impressing with its second touch screen controller and HD graphics, only served to make people question exactly was its point - and they will be hoping to have some of those questions answered at CES in January.

The company released a statement saying: "Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo.

"Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo."

The Wii U is due to be released in time for Christmas 2012.

    • Nintendo Issues Denial Over Shigeru Miyamoto Retirement Announcement Confusion clouds the future of the games legend... By Alex Winehouse on 8 December 2011
Nintendo Issues Denial Over Shigeru Miyamoto Retirement Announcement

Nintendo have denied that games icon Shigeru Miyamoto is to step down from his leading games developer role with the company, despite the man himself previously saying that he wanted to devote himself to smaller games.

The 59-year-old had told Wired: "Inside our office, I’ve been recently declaring, ‘I’m going to retire, I’m going to retire. I’m not saying that I’m going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position.

After shares dropped 2 per cent, Nintendo issued a statement which read: "Video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto's role at Nintendo is not changing. He will continue to be a driving force in Nintendo's development efforts. In discussing his priorities at Nintendo in a media interview, Mr Miyamoto explained how he is encouraging the younger developers at the company to take more initiative and responsibility for developing software.'

In other words, total utter confusion, a crossing of wires, and a chance that something got lost in translation...

Nintendo Say: 'Wii And Wii U Will Co-Exist For Some Time'

Nintendo have announced that they will continue to make games for the Wii after its replacement, the Wii U, is released.

Nintendo of America chief Reggie Fils-Aime has said that both consoles will co-exist on store shelves.

He told Time: "The consumer buying Wii hardware today is going to be a different consumer than the one who will be buying Wii U in the future.

"This is the first holiday that the Wii is available at $149.99 or below, so it's an expanded demographic we're reaching. These are consumers who have heard about Wii for the past couple years, but at $199 or $249 it was economically out of their reach."

Fils-Aime continued: "We haven't announced pricing for Wii U, but you can definitely expect that pricing is going to be different and that the games are going to be different. We do believe that Wii and Wii U will co-exist for some time."

The Wii U will be released worldwide in 2012, and although a definite release date has yet to be set, it is thought that it will be in stores in time for Christmas.

FIFA 12 Christmas TV Spot Revealed

EA Sports have unveiled a special Christmas advert for FIFA 12.

We are, of course, joking. No one wants a copy of Konami's latest game, which is borne out by the statistic that out of every twenty six football video games purchased, twenty five are FIFA 12 (that's not taking the truly excellent Football Manager 2012 into consideration of course. Because, at root, it's not really a football game. It's far more important than that).

FIFA 12 is available on XBox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
