Following rumours of a split earlier this year, it now appears that Garbage may have finally called it a day, with an announcement that all European dates on their 2005 world tour have been cancelled.

A statement released on Friday placed the blame for the cancellation on the band's heavy workload and in particular their touring in 2005, though the fact that their tour schedule fails to differ from any other popular band's touring schedule or the fact that it is only the second tour they have done in the last seven years was not mentioned.

To quote the statement:

"It is with great regret that Garbage have decided to cancel their visit to France, Belgium and the UK in October. Having been constantly on the road since the beginning of March the band feel they have somewhat overextended themselves and have mutually decided to conclude their tour at the end of September in Australia. "

"The band wish to extend their apologies to all Garbage fans in the territories involved and thank them profusely for their support. All tickets will of course be refunded."

The dates affected in the UK are for October:

12 - Manchester Apollo
14 - Cardiff Arena
16 - Portsmouth Guildhall
17 - London Hammersmith Apollo
20 - Birmingham NIA
22 - Glasgow Academy
23 - Edinburgh Usher Hall
