Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Pink, Gwen Stefani and more have joined forces for a new single, ‘Hands’, in honour of the victims of the recent Pulse nightclub mass shooting.
The proceeds from the single, which also features Mary J. Blige, Jason Derulo and Jennifer Lopez, will go towards the victim’s families, the LGBT Community Centre of Central Florida and GLAAD.
The Pulse nightclub - a popular gay club in Orlando, Florida - was midway through its Latinx night when Omar Mateen burst in and killed 49 people, wounding 53 more, in the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history. He was then shot dead by police.
Justin Tranter, who wrote the song (and is best known for co-writing Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’), was on tour with Selena Gomez when the tragedy occurred. “I called [the LGBT Community Centre] and said, ‘If I fly up, is there something for me to help with?’” he told Billboard. “They say, ‘We need as many hands as we can possibly get.’”
‘Hands’ was written the following day. You can download it here.
