Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - 'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!'

This elegy to 1970s New York is the first single taken from the bands colossal fourteenth album set for release March 3rd. We are made to feel sorry for ‘Poor Larry’, because as Blur quite rightly pointed out, ‘modern life is rubbish’ and the poets would agree, so you better believe it. Yes, Nick Cave successfully makes us feel like the insignificant human beings that we are by taking someone who was lucky enough to live in the time of Christ and putting him amongst the contrastingly virile gum trodden streets of New York choicelessly. Merked.
One thing this preacher man proves with this track is that he can make a successful comeback as effortlessly as Lazarus did. While the others sing, ‘Lazarus dig yourself’ in the background, Cave speaks the majority of the lyrics, holding onto any sex appeal he may already possess.
Released 25/02/08 on Mute Records.
