Kanye West and Jay-Z have been criticised by independent record shops over the exclusive release deals in place for their upcoming album 'Watch The Throne'.
The rappers' first full-length collaborative effort will first be released on iTunes and then for two weeks through chains of Best Buy in America.
In an open letter organised by Record Store Day and signed by shops across the US, Jay-Z and West are accused of adopting a “short-sighted strategy”.
"We know that you are busy, and that you put most of your energies into creating great music, but we are writing to you in the hope that you will hear us and take the time to rectify this matter," the letter says.
"As representatives of the independent record store music community, we are asking you to allow record stores and music fans equal access to your new album."
Some record stores have threatened to stop stocking albums by the rappers, reports BBC News.
