Charlie Sheen is the most talked about person online this year, beating the likes of Lady Gaga and the president Barack Obama, according to a new study.
The former Two And A Half Men actor has triggered huge interest over recent weeks following a spate of public outbursts.
The Global Language Monitor analysed the top-20 persons – or things – on blogs and Internet-only news sites, including social-networking websites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
Sheen came top ahead of Apple's recently unveiled iPad 2, while Lady Gaga was third and President Obama fourth. The study used an algorithm to monitor online activity between January 1 and March 8.
Paul JJ Payack, president and chief word analyst for the Global Language Monitor, told Reuters: "Charlie Sheen...is everywhere.
“The growing pervasiveness of social media only enhances this global echo chamber.”
Sheen's outbursts have included praising Amy Winehouse, saying he liked the way she parties “Charlie Sheen-style”.
