Lady Gaga, Britney Spears Videos Are Like 'Soft Porn'

Music producer Mike Stock says...

Music producer Mike Stock has criticised the modern music industry, comparing current chart music to “soft pornography”.

Stock, a member of the song writing trio Stock, Aitken and Waterman, said youngsters were being “sexualised” by the likes of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the music producer insisted that his comments were not old fashioned.

“It's about keeping values that are important in the modern world,” he said. “These days you can't watch modern stars  -  like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga  -  with a two-year-old."

Stock added that he would be “embarrassed” if he had to watch a new pop video with his mother.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the charts is R 'n' B and 99 per cent of that is soft pornography,” he said.

“Kids are being forced to grow up too young. Look at the videos. I wouldn't necessarily want my young kids to watch them.”

Stock, Aitken and Waterman were influential in launching the career of Kylie Minogue. The music producer also criticised video games like Grand Theft Auto.

  • They are raunchy and sexy but honestly, I think this man needs to grow up himself. Times have changed and these videos are becoming more and more common, and they're good videos. I'm a Little Monster, and to compare Britney's videos to Gaga's is unacceptable... Gaga's videos are pieces of art, created with her own input, whilst Britney's are made purely to get quick, fast sales I doubt she has any input into them. These videos are the future.

  • I think you need to grow up, Will. The industry has gone the money route and Mike Stock has a strong point. Lyrics like "I want a ride on your disco stick." "You wanna see me naked." and "Lick the lollipop." Are out of order. I'm 26, I remember a time when music was about talent, not "Tits and bras, menage et trois and sex inexpensive cars!" (Notorious BIG). Thank God I can remember the likes of 80's music which was at least crazy and half decent

  • Lady Gaga can't be compared to Britney. Britney is the queen of pop and has one of the most iconic videos of all time (...Baby one more time) and the concept of the video was HER idea! She's the best!

  • Sounds like a typical old geezer complaining about the music of today. Kylie is hardly seen as wholesome these days, wonder what he has to say about her... And to Bob: Britney is far from being the queen of pop. At the very most she can be the jester of pop - because she is pretty much one big walking joke!
