Why Pragmatic Play Is Based in Gibraltar, and What That Means

Pragmatic Play has operated from Gibraltar since it launched in 2015. The territory is where the company is headquartered, where its ownership sits, and where a good deal of its regulatory identity comes from.

For a supplier distributing across more than 30 regulated markets, that base has shaped more than the postal address.

Who Owns the Company, and Where Is that Held?

Ownership is private, held by an investor group led by Veridian (Gibraltar) Limited. The company is not listed on any exchange and does not publish shareholder detail, which is standard for a privately held business.

Co-founder Julian Jarvis has run it as chief executive throughout. Before iGaming he spent his career in the internet industry across the AOL Time Warner period, entering the sector in 2004 when the founders of the future PartyGaming recruited him.

What Does the Gibraltar Licence Bring?

Regulatory standing that operators recognise.

The company holds licences and approval from respected bodies including the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner, the Gambling Commission of Great Britain and the Malta Gaming Authority. Those credentials decide which operators a supplier can realistically work with, because the larger groups will only integrate licensed partners.

The wider sequence began with the UK, moved through Malta, Sweden, Denmark and Romania, and later took in Ontario and Alberta with Latin American territories following.

How Does the Company Support the Local Community?

Through ongoing charitable work in the territory, including continuing support for GimSams, Calpe House and St John Ambulance. Responsible gaming standards have developed alongside that, with Jarvis directly involved in setting them.

Which Other Operations Sit in Gibraltar?

ARRISE sits in the same territory. It is a global software development and services business for the iGaming industry, supporting Pragmatic Play from Gibraltar with teams in Malta, India, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine and more. Product development and IT sit within its support remit, alongside marketing, events and commercial. The two are distinct companies.

The senior team has also grown from that base. Mark Maislish took the Chief Revenue Officer role in November 2024, arriving from senior finance posts at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, with responsibility for revenue performance and international expansion. Irina Cornides has been Chief Operating Officer since 2022, previously at Gamesys and BGO Group.

What Is Being Produced from There Now?

A Q4 2026 roadmap covering slots, live casino and arcade, was released ahead of SBC Summit Lisbon.

Gates of Olympus 2500, a supercharged edition of the award-winning series, launched on 28 September with multipliers of up to 2,500x, a range of free spin modes and 25,000x win potential. Sugar Megarush arrives in November, with Sweet Bonanza Xmas 2500 planned for the festive period.

The POP collection, introduced in July for casual and beginner players, takes on Sweet Bonanza POP, Zeus vs Hades POP and Starlight Princess POP. Keno+, Pump+ and HiLo+ widen the arcade range. Live casino gains Guess the Number as a new game show format, and Mega Wheel Latino in October with Spanish-speaking presenters.

How Far Does the Content Travel?

One API integration carries thousands of games out to operators, covering 30-plus regulated markets, 30-plus languages and 170-plus currencies. Partners range from major gaming giants like Flutter Entertainment and Entain to regional brands and aggregators.

Live casino began in 2019 with about 50 tables and has passed 500, with plans to grow that number to over 1,000 across the next two years and studio locations rising from five to nine.

The slots catalogue built up over a longer run. Towards the turn of the decade Sweet Bonanza had established itself as an industry-leading title. Big Bass Bonanza and Gates of Olympus emerged as player favourites soon afterwards, and all three have remained top performers since. Gates of Olympus Super Scatter led the global performance charts at the close of 2025, and Fortune of Olympus also did well.

Why Does the Base Still Matter?

Because the regulatory position built from it is the thing a competitor cannot shortcut. Licences take years and money to accumulate, and they govern which operators will take your content. Eleven years on, that groundwork is what the rest of the business rests on.
