Online retailer Amazon’s 99 cents offer on Lady Gaga’s new album cost the company $3million, according to reports.
The company offered fans the chance to buy ‘Born This Way’ for the slashed down price last week as part of a promotion for its new Cloud service.
The New York Times reports that Amazon sold 440,000 copies over the two days of the offer.
The retailer apparently paid Lady Gaga’s record label Universal full price - between $8 and $9 - for the album, meaning they lost $3million.
‘Born This Way’ topped the US album chart with total first-week sales of 1.1million.
