Lady Gaga shut down Time Square last night (August 18) as its was announced that she will be opening the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) later this month.
Thousands of the singer's fans swamped the famous New York landmark as the singer also unveiled her new video, 'You And I'.
Appearing on TRL, presenter Sway let Lady Gaga's fans – who she dubs her Little Monsters – confirm that she will open the VMAs by unveiling a huge banner.
"It means the world to me," Lady Gaga said. "I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans."
Lady Gaga joins the previously announced VMAs performers Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Young The Giant.
The singer is nominated for four awards: Best Female Video ('Born This Way'), Best Art Direction ('Judas'), Best Choreography ('Judas') and Best Video with a Message ('Born This Way').
Later, Lady Gaga went to the Roseland Ballroom to watch Beyonce play the third of four nights at the venue.
