Cheryl Cole has been replaced as a judge on the US edition of The X Factor.
US gossip website TMZ said the Girls Aloud star had been dropped by producers over fears the American public could not understand her strong Northern accent.
But The Sun reports that Cole, who was only confirmed as a judge earlier this month, had grown homesick and wanted to return to the UK.
She will apparently be replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who had been previously been hired to co-host the programme alongside Welsh TV presenter Steve Jones.
A spokesperson for Cole has yet to comment.
It is not clear if Cole will now return to the judging panel on the UK edition of The X Factor, which has yet to finalise its panel.
