That’s what you call progress

If you’re one of those po-faced lily-livered saddos who hasn’t caught World Cup fever yet (GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!) I encourage you to have a nose around the internet and seek out each participating nation’s official World Cup anthem.

You’re a music fan. Go on, treat yourself. I’ll wait.

Isn’t it nice how every country is as batshit obsessed with the damn thing as we are? If literally nothing else can unite our species right now, some geezers punting a ball about on telly will always somehow do the trick

So anyway, assuming you’re planning to catch the Iran vs Morocco game later today – because why in the hell (GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!) wouldn’t you – you’ll get way more out of the experience if you take a few moments to familiarise yourself with this, Morocco’s official anthem and video:

Did you spot it? The hook? Here’s the lyrics:

“Na na na na / Na na na na / Hey hey hey / Good bye”

It’s that Bananrama song! You know the one:

Fuck yeah it is.

The sexy 80s party girl trio are unlikely standard bearers for a conservative Islamic kingdom in North Africa, but then that’s just the magic of the World Cup all over.

Watch the video all the way through. Bananarama learn how to box, see off some rough lads, and pinch their motorbikes.

May they set a shining example to the youth of Morocco.
