A CD collection of 78rpm records personally picked by the John Peel and his wife Sheila has gone on sale this week.
Titled ‘John Peel and Sheila: The Pig's Big 78s’, plans to release the album were already underway when the great man died in Peru in October 2004.
The albums draws its title from his Radio 1 slot where Sheila – nicknamed ‘The Pig’ – introduced a selection of zany 78rpm records.
The madcap 23 track album featuring yodelling amongst other things has been released by German record label Trakont.
Fans of the Radio 1 slot it was derived from, include Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, who said: "Whenever I was losing inspiration, I would listen to his show and was straight away on track.
“He'd play one thing every show which would change how you thought about a style of music."
