Some may accuse the Arctic Monkeys of aping a whole host of other acts but now they’ve come in for that sort of treatment themselves.
An unknown Yorkshire man has set up a spoof version of the band called ‘Artex Monkey’ with a similar website and a bunch of tongue in cheek covers.
No one is too sure about who is behind the tribute act yet with furious speculation on the subject dominating many Arctic Monkeys forums.
Introducing himself on the website, Artex says: “If tha teks a luk ararnd tha mighnt find somet of intrest. But tha mighnt av t'luk reight ard. Am just laikin abart an jus for t'record Arctic Monkeys a mi favourite band an I seen em play an all that - respect.”
So far the Artex’s have done versions of ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’, which has become ‘A Bet Tha Looks Gud On A Pushbike’, and the brilliantly titled ‘Fake Tans of Barnsley Disco’ - a take on ‘Fake Tales Of San Francisco’.
