Germany's best neo Krautrock group, Camera, have unveiled the video to 'Frölichkeit', taken from their extraordinary album that featured in our 51 best albums of 2017. You can watch the video first on Gigwise below.
The most immediate draw in listening to 'Frölichkeit' is the drum sound - Dave Grohl if you're reading this you'll love it. It's pushed to the front of the mix and hammers repetitively like all the great motorik percussionsts assocaited with Germany's most iconic genre, Krautrock. In addition to nailing the hypnotic side, the flair with which Michael Drummer (apt surname) plays makes it all the more incredible fills feel vital rather than messy and up the energy at crucial moments.
The song is entirely instrumental but the track is driven by an eerie synth melody, a solid bass groove and myriad atmospheric textures that aid its escapist, otherworldy feel.
The video suits the track because the song doesn't seem to rely on any overly modern pieces of equipment or instruments and has a very retro feel matching the use of lo-fi cienamtography.
Camera head out on tour this month across Europe. Do not miss them - it'll be mesmerising.
