BBC Radio 1 have defended their decision to rename Rihanna's new single following criticism from the singer.
On Sunday (February 6), Rihanna expressed her frustration after she was informed on Twitter that the station had re-titled 'S&M' as 'Come On'.
Several words had also been cut from the version, including “sex” and “chains”.
Responding to the singer's criticism, a Radio 1 spokesperson told Gigwise: ''During daytime hours, as younger audiences are listening, we are playing the radio edit which is called 'Come On'.
“This is due to the strong nature of the content in the original version of the track. However we will continue to play the original track in specialist shows with an appropriate introduction.”
The video for 'S&M' has also been banned in several countries, while other broadcasters have vowed to only show it at more adult-friendly times of the day.
