Wayne Coyne has apologised to Arcade Fire for his vitriolic attack on the band earlier this year that sparked a war of words between himself and Win Butler.
As previously reported on Gigwise Coyne called the band “pricks” in an interview with Rolling Stone over the way he thought they treated people and their audience.
In response Butler was equally mature saying: “I hope I was less of a "prick" then telling Rollingstone that a bunch of people I don't know at all are really assholes.”
In a new interview however, Coyne has said he wished the whole argument had never happened and says that what he said wasn't necessarily aimed at the band members themselves.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "I didn't necessarily mean it about the people in the Arcade Fire. I meant it about the guys that were running their stages at a couple of festivals.
“I wish whatever had been said wouldn't have been taken as such a defiant statement from the Flaming Lips, because it wasn't...I really feel bad about it. I like enough of their music. The idea that I'm somehow against them...I'm not!"
Worst retraction ever?
