Leona Lewis: 'Amazing Barack Obama Will Change Britain'

November 03, 2008 by Jason Gregory

Leona Lewis has endorsed Barack Obama's bid to become American President because she believes he can have an impact on Britain.

Lewis, who was born in Hackney, London, told the Sun newspaper that Mr Obama could “inspire” young ethnic minorities in the UK to “do something productive”.

“Who gets elected president of America is important for everyone in the world, because they end up running our country too,” she said.

“I think Obama is amazing. He’s just so cool and articulate. Nothing fazes him. I think it would be a huge step forward for America and the world.”

Lewis, who won the X Factor in 2006 and has enjoyed huge success in America, said she couldn't describe how much it would mean to have a president of mixed race.

“The country needs that change,” she said. “It would mean everything for ethnic minorities in that country and every country around the world to have a mixed-race leader of America.”

Mr Obama is currently ahead of rival John McCain in the polls as the pair head into the final 48 hours of the presidential race.
