When you are one of the biggest bands in the country, can sell out stadiums and anything you release will skip to the top of the charts, it’s really inconsequential what you release. And so it is with the Kaiser Chiefs and 'Love's Not A Competition (But I’m Winning).' It’s not intrinsically bad, its an acoustic ballad. 6 chords and some nice atmospherics.
It’s ironic that the fading lines of the song are, “I won’t be the one to disappoint you, any more.” Will fans be disappointed? Some will. The catchy insaneness of 'Ruby' has gone; the ground swell of 'I Predict A Riot' is sadly nowhere to be seen. A nice detour but miles from their best.
Released 12/11/07 on B-Unique.
