The word 'feminist' has been viewed with both confusion and confidence, alarm and comfort, pride and embarrassment, for just about as long as the word has existed. It is, for some, a label they would rather not attach themselves to. For others though, it is a principle by which they live and breathe.
Why is feminism such a complex term to grapple with? Is it possible to disown the term without disowning its principles of equality at the same time? What does it mean when people say they aren't a feminist - and, more importantly, what does it mean when people say they are?
We've gathered a small sample of the incredible wide-ranging, contradicting, thought-provoking musician responses to one of the simplest, yet mind-bogglingly complex, questions that exists. Are you a feminist?
