Glastonbury leads a huge summer of British festivals in 2013, but the UK scene is facing increasingly stiff competition from overseas festivals, with music lovers hoping to mix a bit of travel and sunshine in with their summer experiences.

And there's certainly a lot to choose from. America is well represented, with Bonnaroo and Coachella both legendary music events, but that's not to say that other countries aren't also doing their part. Japan's Summer Sonic Festival is always an experience, and if the leaked line-up for Barcelona's Primavera festival is anything to go by, it could well be the festival of the year.

So find your tent, dig out your passport and try and remember if you've washed your sleeping bag since last year, because we've got ten of the best overseas festivals right here for your perusal...

  • Primavera: Primavera is on 22 - 26 May this year, and is located in Barcelona, Spain. Last year's acts included The Cure, Death Cab For Cutie, The xx, Yo La Tengo, Beach House and Field Music - among many, many more. While the 2013 line-up isn't set to be announced until 23 January, the rumoured acts include Daft Punk, Frank Ocean and Blur.

  • Coachella: Taking place in the Coachella Valley in California (hence the name!), Coachella happens on two separate weekends. This year, weekend 1 is April 12-14 and weekend 2 is April 19-21. The 2013 line-up hasn't been announced yet, although it usually happens sometime in January, but last year's acts included Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, The Shins and Pulp. Rumours for this year are Daft Punk, the Rolling Stones and Phoenix.

  • Roskilde: Taking place in Roskilde, Denmark, on 29 June - 7 July, Roskilde is nine days long and usually boasts around 200 gigs across the week. Confirmed acts for 2013 include Sigur Ros, Queens of the Stone Age, Disclosure and Slipknot. Past acts include Kings of Leon, The Strokes and Iron Maiden.

  • Bonnaroo: Bonnaroo takes place in Manchester, Tennessee, and is on 13-16 June this year. Last year's acts included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead and Beach Boys.

This year it's on the 18 - 21 July, and some of the acts confirmed are The Killers, Queens of the Stone Age, Jake Bugg, Azealia Banks and the Palma Violets. Last year's line-up included Florence the Machine, Bob Dylan, At the Drive-In, New Order and the Stone Roses.

  • Summer Sonic: Summer Sonic festival takes place in Japan, at both Osaka and Chiba on the same weekend (think Reading and Leeds). This year it happens on 10 and 11 August, and the 2013 line-up hasn't yet been announced - but is due to be confirmed in January. Last year's acts included Green Day, The Vaccines, Passion Pit, Rihanna and Grimes.

  • Rock Werchter: Rock Werchter takes place on 4 - 7 July this year, in Werchter, Belgium. This year's line-up includes Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon, Blur and Green Day. Some of the acts last year were Jack White, Alabama Shakes, Mumford & Sons and Lana Del Rey.

  • Pinkpop: Pinkpop takes place at Landgraaf, Netherlands and this year on 14 - 16 June. Green Day, Queens of the Stone Age and The Script are confirmed to play, and acts that performed last year include Ben Howard, The Cure, Blood Red Shoes and Bruce Springsteen.

  • Sziget: Sziget has previously won the Best European Major Festival Award, and takes place in northern Budapest, Hungary. This year it happens on 5 - 12 August, and has already confirmed Blur as a headliner. Last year's acts included the Stone Roses, The xx, The Killers and The Vaccines.
