More about: Lorde
New Zealand star Lorde has discussed the vicious Twitter abuse she suffered in 2013, after attacks and insults were made towards her and boyfriend James Lowe.
In December 2013, Twitter was flooded with aggressive messages regarding the singer and her boyfriend, attacking the couple's appearance in racist tweets. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Lorde has discussed the abuse for the first time, saying she was affected by the insults.
The chart topper claims the people who sent the message are "the type of people who use the word 'f----t as an insult," adding that despite her cool exterior, she was hurt by the abuse. "[I'm] not completely impervious to insult," she adds. "I'm a human being."
The singer also discusses her friendship with US star Taylor Swift in the new interview, but also says that she is not quite as self-assured as she portrays herself, and a lot of her perceived strength is little more than a front.
"I get paralyzingly nervous a lot of times, so I tried bravado," the singer continues. "The way I dress and carry myself, a lot of people find it strange or intimidating. I think my whole career can be boiled down to the one word I always say in meetings: strength."
