Online fraudsters are trying to dupe producers into sending them new music.
Producer Richard X told BBC's Newsbeat that imposters are taking on the identities of industry workers to try to obtain finished tracks and demos from music producers.
X said: “They get a little bit of information by searching databases, publishers catalogues or reading forums.”
Lana Del Ray's debut album 'Born To Die' was released on Monday (January 30) but was available to download as early as last Monday after it leaked online.
Online leaks are traditionally caused by friends of the artists, journalists or careless producers, but Richard X claims that tech-savvy fans are now sending e-mails to producers, disguising themselves as part of the artist's management, touring agency or family.
“I know of a producer recently who did send out the demos and the masters to a random person,” X said.
