Lily Allen has taken to Twitter to celebrate the resignation of Rebekah Brooks as the Chief Executive of News International.
Brooke said she had decided to step down today (July 15) in the wake of the phone hacking scandal at the News Of The World – a paper she edited between 2000 and 2003.
On Twitter, Allen, who was one of a number of music stars who celebrate the newspaper's closure last week, said: “Brooks has resigned ? Wowsers, well, hurrah to that.”
In her statement, Brooks said she felt a "deep responsibility for the people we have hurt".
She added: “I have believed that the right and responsible action has been to lead us through the heat of the crisis. However my desire to remain on the bridge has made me a focal point of the debate.”
George Michael and Example were among the other music stars who have been vocal over the scandal.
