Jennifer Saunders is writing the script for the upcoming Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever.
The production, which is due to open in London in 2012, will feature the girl group's music as well as a contemporary story about celebrity and fame.
Saunders, a star of Absolutely Fabulous, told the BBC: "It is very exciting to be writing a musical that encompasses the music and energy of the biggest girl band of all time.
"My daughters grew up with The Spice Girls - I had to write the book for them as well as myself."
Viva Forever has been conceived by Judy Craymer, who produced Abba musical Mamma Mia!, which has gone on to be a huge hit.
Spice Girls split in 2000 after struggling to continue without Geri Halliwell, who quit two years earlier.
All five girls reformed in 2007 for a greatest hits tour and CD release.
