Former Happy Mondays star Bez has been jailed for four weeks for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
The 46-year-old was initially given a community order during an appearance at Manchester Magistrates' Court, but he refused to do it.
The chair told Bez, real name Mark Berry, that he would be jailed instead, reports BBC News.
The court had heard how Berry attempted to strangle Monica Ward after he accused her of stealing money.
He has also been given a restraining order which prevents him from contacting Ward for two years.
