More about:

London artist collective Steam Down have released their debut single today ahead of their appearance on Jools Holland this evening. 'Free My Skin' is a strong, euphoric first statement from the South East London group.

'Free My Skin' darts from jazz to afrobeat and future soul in a flurry of impeccably-composed twists and turns, and a vocal turn that indicates it's time to party: a response to feelings of "anxieties, tensions and stressful emotions". Hear the amazing debut:

Having formed in 2017, Steam Down have made a name for themselves in their hometown for their euphoric live shows and artistic and instrumental skill. The eight-person collective was founded by composer and producer Ahnansé, who said of the debut release: "This single acts as a micro release so for just one moment, you can feel free from everything you have been carrying. This sentiment sums up the essence and soul of Steam Down and what it stands for; a sound, a space, a moment, to feel free in the midst of the chaotic nature of modern life.”

Steam Down will star on the BBC Two show Later...with Jools Holland tonight (8 November) at 11pm. Tune in to see more of what's to come.
