Morrissey has announced two outdoor hometown shows in Manchester for early July.
The former Smiths singer and often controversial solo artist will play the 8,450 capacity Castlefield Bowl on July 7-8, a regular venue for homecoming shows by Mancunian legends such as New Order, 808 State. James and The Verve in the past.
Tickets to the gigs go on sale Friday May 25th at 10am here. The shows will be 100% vegetarian/vegan, as is always the case at Moz shows.
The two Manchester shows are joined by two European gigs confirmed at Berlin Mercedes-Benz Arena on Sunday, 15 July and Dalhalla Arena in Rattvik, Sweden on Thursday July 19.
Meanwhile, Moz’s current label is preparing to release the fourth single release from his latest album Low In High School. ‘All The Young People Must Fall In Love’ has been remixed by Bob Clearmountain for the release, the first time a project that Morrissey is involved in has been remixed since the disastrous New York remixes of The Smiths’ ‘This Charming Man’ were issued by Rough Trade in 1983. The mixes, by US producer Francois Kervorkian – incidentally the only man invited to remix Kraftwerk too – were subsequently slammed by the band.
The B-side to ‘All The Young People…’ is a live recording of Moz’s cover of country hit ‘Rose Garden’, the opening tune from his set at legendary country haunt and Elvis favourite The Grand Ole’ Opry in Tennessee. The song was originally a worldwide hit for Lynn Anderson in 1970. Morrissey’s single will soon be available on 7-inch vinyl and as a download. More details to come on Gigwise.
