Stoke City footballer Peter Crouch will join such luminaries as Chris Moyles, Johnny Vaughan and Dan O’Connell as a presenter on Radio X, beginning next week.
Crouch is known not only for his towering height, but for a relatively sharp sense of humour in the muted world of football, and for his love of bands such as Kasabian.
He was famously spotted crowdsurfing at one of Serge and co.’s gigs in 2014, hours after scoring the opening goal in a victory over Arsenal.
The footballer will be taking over from Gordon Smart on weeknights and Sunday afternoons for the next two weeks while the regular presenter is on holiday.
Of his new position, Crouch told The Daily Star: "I love Radio X and the music the station plays so I'm excited about being in the hot seat. "I love Radio X and the music the station plays so I'm excited about being in the hot seat. "I have a few stories I'm looking forward to sharing and some visitors I'm looking forward to welcoming to the studio. "All will be revealed next week!"
Matt Deverson, managing editor of Radio X, added: "As well as being one of the best loved footballers of his generation, Peter Crouch is well known for his passion for music and legendary sense of humour.
Having initially been launched to some controversy owing to its distinctly male-focused audience targeting, Radio X has since gone from strength to strength. That did not, however, save the station’s breakfast host Chris Moyles from being righteously hit around the head with a full pint while touring the nation on the Radio X roadshow.
