Bestival has announced its three mainstage headliners for this year’s festival as The xx, Pet Shop Boys and A Tribe Called Quest.

Other acts include Jamie T, Justice, Dizzee Rascal, Rag 'n' Bone Man, DJ Shadow, and Jackmaster. They will all take to the stage at the new Dorset site this September.

Festival organiser Rob da Bank said “Well what an adventure this promises to be… we have a beautiful new home with a massive castle in the middle of it, acres of beautiful woodland and forest, a sea view and the dramatic Jurassic coastline".

He continued, "From pop to grime, hip-hop to techno, folk to classical and every style in between we are reclaiming our place as the funnest, most adventurous, musically savvy and downright magical festival on the map. Please come along for the ride. and remember Increase the Peace”.

Giving his thoughts on the headliners on Twitter, Rob da Bank also revealed that London trio The xx have curated the Friday main stage bill under their headline slot that evening. Speaking of their headline set, The xx said "Bestival was one of the first festivals we played, back in 2010, and it had always been a dream for us…we even begged to play the previous year."

The traditional fancy dress theme will be ‘colours’, with the world’s biggest confetti cannon as the event’s centrepiece and curator Rob Da Bank promising "the funnest, most adventurous, musically savvy and downright magical festival on the map."

“Amazingly it is over ten years since we last played Bestival,” the Pet Shop Boys said, “but we remember it being one of the most enjoyable festivals ever. Looking forward to bringing our new show there this year - and seeing how the audience has decided to dress up!”

Many of Bestival’s trademarks will return at the new site, including the Bollywood and Temple dance areas, the HMS Bestival DJ stage, the fancy dress parades and the world’s biggest bouncy castle.

It was announced in December last year that the festival would move location from its Isle of Wight home, Robin Hill Country Park, and set sail for a new mainland site.

Bestival 2017 will take place from 7-10 September at Lulworth Estate, Dorset
