Peckham-based future soul artist, Cosima, has gathered high praise for the string of tracks she's put out so far becoming widely recognised as one of 2016's most captivating newcomers.
In addition to 'Had To Feel Something', 'Girls Who Get Ready', and 'Hymns For Him', Cosima has four brand new, never before heard track to accompany them on this stunning mixtape that was released today (5 December).
Her voice is delightful, nodding to retro soul music, but transforming it with intelligent use of reverbs, delay's, and backing vocals to create a lush wall of sound that's propelled by the punchy bass lines and inventive percussion. This is seriosuly accomplished stuff.
Throughout the tracks Cosima challenges the notions of what makes women desirable, the strain of unbalanced relationships and regaining control.
“South Of Heaven was written at a time when nothing ever felt like it was enough,” says Cosima. “I couldn’t get out of bed and couldn’t work out how to be good to myself. I was just waiting for someone else to love me so that I didn’t have to. I was in a state of self-inflicted purgatory. Putting this mixtape out is a selfish form of therapy for me, but maybe one person will need to hear the songs as much as I needed to write them.”
