The Cramps' frontman Lux Interior has died in California.
The singer (right; second from the left) passed away in a hospital in Glendale as a result of an existing heart condition, the band's publicist said.
Interior and his wife, Poison Ivy, formed the Cramps in 1976. The band went on to become an integral part of the New York punk scene.
The Cramps released a total of fourteen albums during their career, with their last, 'How To Make A Monster', coming in 2004.
Their most successful release was 1984's 'Bad Music For Bad People', which sold 95,000 copies.
They have been citied as an influence by bands including the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and The White Stripes.
Interior, whose real name was Erick Lee Purkhiser, was born in Ohio in 1946.
