Lucky Dube Tribute Single And Documentary To Get Release

A tribute single and video, which will include a behind-the-scenes documentary, to the late South African reggae star Lucky Dube is to get a worldwide release.

‘Chance – A Tribute To Lucky Dube’ was written by the Jamaican artist Prophecy shortly after Dube was tragically murdered during a car-jacking last October.

Thanks to a deal between the Prophecy’s record label Jah Birth and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) the song is to be made available for a limited time.

“This project is a spiritual one and one which we had to do,” said Delroy Nevin, Chief Executive Officer of Jah Birth New Limited.

Mr Nevin added “that something needed to be done to honour a revolutionary, a humanitarian and a fellow reggae ambassador.”

The single will be accompanied by a documentary which follows Dube’s eldest son Thokozani as he retraces his father’s steps through reggae music.

Footage for the film has been shot in both Jamaica and South Africa.

“The fact that the Jamaicans called us upon doing a tribute song to Lucky Dube is an indication that the SABC is a true custodian of South Africa’s cultural heritage and artistic expressionism,” Thokozani said.

  • I can’t wait to see the documentary. When and where can I buy it? I am still heartbroken and grieving for my idol Lucky. I know that he is resting in perfect peace with the Lord and the Angels.

  • GOD BLESS THE WOMAN who born LUCKY PHILLIP DUBE. He came as a SLAVE , he TEACH THE WORLD through his DING DING LICKY LICKY BONG reggae music. though he is now a LONELY MAN, STANDING ALONE on THE OTHER SIDE because of some GROUP AREAS ACT who are fill with SINS OF THE FLESH just because of MONEY MONEY MONEY. But one day we will be TOGETHER AS ONE with our HERO that’s just THE WAY IT IS. RESPECT to a reggae SOLDIER, rest in PEACE PERFECT PEACE.
