A big name for 2012, Cold Specks is Canadian singer/songwriter Al Spx. Now based in London, Cold Specks is a true soul talent, with a mournful sound which invokes the heartbreaking, blue-influenced soul of classic singers such as Billie Holliday and Nina Simone.
Describing her music as 'doom soul', one listen to her new single 'Black Maps' will make sense of the phrase. Mixing subtlety with a sense of epic loss, 'Blank Maps' is as stunning a slice of true modern soul as you're likely to hear in the twentieth century and is sure to set Cold Specks on the route to the greatness her music deserves.
Released as a single on 14 May, 2012, Cold Specks has today premiered the video for 'Blank Maps' on Gigwise. Watch it below.
