Simple Ways to Make Your Garden Feel More High-End

Making your garden feel luxurious does not necessarily mean draining your bank account. Many things that are perceived as “high-end”, popular amongst celebrities, are general aesthetic choices or thoughtful design details. Find out how you can achieve a similar effect with some simple changes!

Define Your Spaces with Crisp Edging

One of the most immediate ways to make your garden appear professionally designed is by creating clean, defined edges. While some people prefer the rustic charm of messy lawns and flowerbeds, that kind of look can feel a bit neglected and, therefore, not high-end. Instead, opt for crip lines that showcase care and order.

You can easily do this yourself, simply by maintaining your garden regularly. Use a sharp spade and cut a deep, clean channel along your flower beds, creating distinct zones between different spaces. You could also install metal edging for a more modern look or classic stone pavers – these act like a picture frame, making everything look polished.

Install Ambient Lighting

A luxurious garden doesn’t disappear right after sunset. It transforms into a magical space that people love to hang out in, at any time of the day. Installing ambient lighting is not just practical, but can also create a 5-star resort-like feel, but with a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

Avoid harsh lamps that light up only one part of your outdoor space. Instead, layer your lighting for more depth. For example, incorporate elegant downward fence lights that subtly illuminate the walls and define their perimeter. Spotlights are another popular option in high-end gardens, used to uplight a unique feature in the space, such as a sculpture or a decorative tree.

Use a Cohesive Colour Palette

A professionally-designed garden will always feel harmonious, rather than chaotic. It should have a sense of calm and organisation, while still showcasing your unique personality. Therefore, whatever your colour palette, make sure that you use a cohesive theme throughout the space. Neutral palette, such as creams, whites, greys and browns, is particularly popular amongst celebs.

To achieve this, pick your main accent colour that will appear throughout the space. Then choose a few other colours that complement it, without overshadowing it. You can even apply this approach to your flowers (think about the colours you will have when your gardens bloom and whether or not they match well with the overall theme).

Have a Single Focal Point

Designer gardens will often have one, high-impact focal point that brings that “wow” factor as you first walk into the space. This is often an expensive marble sculpture or, perhaps, a unique stone firepit. It is usually placed strategically, so it’s visible from the seating area or through the windows indoors.

Now, your focal point does not have to be something expensive. The key here is choosing an object or a feature that has a unique presence. This may be an oversized planter with a bonsai tree or a decorative birdbath. Depending on the size of your garden, the scale of the focal point does not have to be huge either, as long as it’s creating an impact.

Simple but Impactful

It really doesn’t take a lot to dramatically shift the feel of your garden. Even something as obvious as new lighting can take it from an unnoteworthy space to a head-turning moment!
