‘Dogs’ is a gentle song that as lovely as it may sound, can be taken or easily left well behind. It is well put together and the sound is tight, binding the different layers of melodic guitar and soft vocals with steady drum beats; but it isn’t anything special. Neither the lyrics nor airy harmonies grab you at any point, and this lack of a hook means you forget what this song really sounded like almost as soon as the last few chords fade away. At best this song is your average guitar pop number, at worst it’s nothing more than another Damien Rice song that sounds exactly like any of his other tunes.
Released 17/09/2007 on 14th Floor.
