When the fantastically named, Anne Booty’s voice echo’s out at the start of ‘Cuts & Lies’, Gigwise is tricked. And it’s not because her voice sounds similar to The Long Blondes’ Kate Jackson either. It’s because the underworld jazz ensemble, Acoustic Ladyland have worked their Machiavellian magic once again. For those not too familiar with Acoustic Ladyland, they are actually an all male jazz four piece who adopt vocalists, as opposed to having full time singers in their line-up. As the sultry strength of ‘Cuts & Lies’ proves, it could well be the way to go. While you’re in the constant company of a funk beat, Ladyland have thrown in an abundance of jagged guitar stabs and filtered sax into their latest offering which when combined with Booty’s vocals means you’ll find it hard to stop your booty shaking as well.
