Easily the best thing about Cowbridge’s finest The Automatic is their brash ability to knock out uplifting tuneage. While ‘Raoul’ isn’t a patch on their knock-out debut ‘Recover’ (a track that’s going to be damn hard to top) what it lacks in brilliance it makes up for in cocky faux-punk charm and its two-fingers up to the mundane nine to five existence. A direct nod to their local sandwich making mystic Raoul where the lads used to go to escape tedium, it’s all packed with boyhood optimism and swagger throughout. The Automatic then, hardly the most exciting, engaging band we know, but still fookin’ great fun.
