If you're not familiar with the lo-fi urban space rock of Grandaddy then you should be. On this, their third album, they prove beyond all doubt that pre-millennial tension did not go away just because we all yelled Happy New Year and good riddance to the millennium bug a few years back. The lyrics are full of classic tales of isolation, desolation and the struggle between technology and nature. Like a Douglas Coupland novel, nothing much seems to happen and yet you feel strangely reassured, comforted and most of all - not alone. Imagine Neil Young reciting Generation X over drawling, fuzzed up guitars and bubbling synth arpeggios. If that doesn't appeal, then I'd advise you to avoid. If you are looking to identify your place in the world, then have a listen - you might find some answers.
