If musical ability was measured by a band’s ability to jump up and down, and pull of all the classic metal poses, while wearing the coolest clothes and having a great look then The Fight would be right up there with the greats. However, I don’t write for a metal magazine aimed at fourteen year olds, so I don’t. While The Fight undoubtedly rock, in quite a stylised way, they add little to a genre that is currently over run by a million sound-a-like bands from over the pond. Their brand of punk-metal with a hint of ska has been done to its death since the mid nineties.

Sometimes sounding like ’Dookie’ era Green Day, but without the impact as they’re ten years too late, The Fight’s songs seemly blend into a blur of similar sounding three minute rants. It’s the kind of music you could use to wean your little sister off Girls Aloud and turn her into a metal chic, all style but with little substance.

Lead singer Kate cites Pretty Girls Make Graves as one of her favourite bands and major influences. But while she may have Andrea Zollo’s look, she neither has her stage presence or the ability to enhance the bands songs with soaring vocals as Zollo does.

The fact that support band Protocol rock just as hard, if not harder, and have a bit more weight to their musical bones, while looking like three thirty something’s who got lost on the way to their local, only goes to highlight the failures of The Fight further.
