The second single from Agoria’s new album ‘The Green Armchair’ hints at an artist who is anything but comfortable with sticking to one trademark sound. Following the infectious ‘Code 1026’, Agoria is intent on showing us another side of his experimental personality with the bizarrely titled ‘Baboul Hair Cuttin’. Despite not being as strong as its predecessor on the dancefloor, this single is more superior production-wise which should please those electro-house connoisseurs.
We are presented with three takes of the track, with each of them showing complete individuality from the next. Whilst they all feature Scalde on vocals, the Gui Boratto remix is a traditional electronic treat more suitable for hot summer evenings rather than this winter’s mulled wine fuelled nights. However, Boratto is no match for the Radio Slave remix, which at over eleven minutes long, is an exceptional James Holden-esque beauty complete with throbbing minimal beats that resemble material from the Get Physical label rather than the edgy PIAS/Wall of Sound imprint. Disappointingly, the third and final track - an album version of ‘Baboul Hair Cuttin’ - carries a dull, eerie element which really deserves to be snipped and left on this Frenchman’s cutting room floor. But overall, it’s a fairly good attempt at capturing the remainder of this year’s dance music trends.
