If the Arctic Monkeys had grown up listening to The Fall instead of learning chords from an Oasis songbook they’d sound like fellow Sheffield natives The Yell – and you can’t get any higher praise than that. Singer Idle Hands (modern mothers have a lot to answer for...) delivers his twisted love tale with the bravado of a Mark E Smith delighted at picking up a winning scratchcard with his 20 Lambert & Butler, as The Yell rattle out their bop-a-long sing-a-long ding-dong of a tune like a good ‘un behind him. Another gem from the most excellent Marquis Cha Cha label.
