It might seem bizarre, but it has emerged that Michael Jackson was at one point being considered for the role of British sci-fi icon Doctor Who in a big screen adaptation.

The Times revealed earlier this week that Jackson caught the eye of Paramount Studios following his 1988 feature-length film Moonwalker, and Paramount where lining him up for the lead role in a big screen reworking of the series they were planning.

The revelations come thanks to Charles Norton’s new book Now On The Big Screen: The Unofficial And Unauthorised Guide To Doctor Who At The Cinema. The book also claims that bumbling TV funny man Bill Cosby was also considered for the role at one point.

In the end Jackson missed out on the role, but equally strangely he composed the now iconic theme music for Sonic The Hedgehog a few years later for the 1994 video game Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

Jackson’s family are currently embroiled in a wrongful death trial with promoters AEG Live, with the family claiming the promoters knew the singer was unwell but still pushed for the tour to go ahead regardless.

Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray has already been jailed for his part in the singer's death.
