Benicassim FIB organisers deny festival cancellation rumours

Statement due today amid rumours on Spanish event

  • Sonar, Spain: Another festival with a special birthday this year, Sonar will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013 with its biggest line-up to date. Heralded as one of the most influential dance festivals in the world, the event has become synonymous for its forward thinking list of acts, as Barcelona becomes the most important place in electronic music for one weekend every year. This year will see Sonar move from their famous aircraft hangers to a more central location in the city, with Kraftwerk, Major Lazer, 2ManyDJ's and The Pet Shop Boys set to christen the new venues.

Organisers of Spanish festival Benicassim will not be cancelled this year, despite rumours of suspension in light of alleged organisational problems. A statement regarding the go-ahead of the event is due today (Wednesday 3 July).

The event is set to take place from 18-21 July with performances from Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Queens of the Stone Age and more - but Spanish newspaper El Pais has reported that  vendors are owed 'substantial amounts' and that suppliers have reportedly not been offered a guarantee on their payment. This has caused many festival goers and media outlets to speculate that the event may be pulled, as noted by DIY.

Issuing a statement in broken English on their official Facebook page yesterday, festival organisers said: "The Fiberfib 2013 is going ahead, don't worries after the last rumours a lot customers are asking me if the fib is going to be cancelled don't worries.

"We are going to have the festival as always, everything is getting ready in Benicassim, and in 2 weeks we will be enjoying the fantastic bands, as The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Queen of the Stone Age, Primal Scream y Beady Eye, and much more tomorrow the organizers would send a official letter to explain it."

Arctic Monkeys are set to headline Benicassim alongside Queens of the Stone Age and The Killers

Sources say that organiser Vince Power has been dealing with issues regarding the assemblage of the festival site. Power is also in charge of Hop Farm Festival in the UK, which was cancelled this year due to poor ticket sales.
