Tame Impala's Kevin Parker has spoken to Gigwise about his alleged criticism of festival goers, after he said that 'only 10 per cent are there for the music'.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Parker told the magazine that festivals used to be about the music but: "Now it's more about muscles and how little clothing you can wear."

When speaking to Gigwise about the comments, the band's lead singer said the comments were 'blown way out of proportion'.

"Obviously with almost every festival you go to there's people who love music and that's why they're there," he said. "But, there are jocks at festivals, everyone knows that."

Parker went on to defend himself by saying: "There was just one day when I went to a festival and that was going on and I was like 'Oh man, come on.' But I feel like it was all blown way out of proportion."

After putting their criticisms of festival punters to rest, Kevin and bandmate Dominic Simper went on to tell Gigwise about their excitement to play Glastonbury this weekend.

"It'll be special for sure, I mean it's Glastonbury," he said. "It's the festival you always hear about."

Tame Impala are playing the Other Stage on Friday night at Glastonbury 2013.
