Queen guitarist Brian May has hit out at BBC's The Voice, calling the TV talent show 'the ultimate insult to music' and saying he hopes the 'vile show dies a natural death'.

Speaking to the BBC-produced magazine The Radio Times, May spoke angrily about the show, taking issue with the show's format - specifically at singers having to perform to judges with their backs turned.

"The Voice is the dullest, dumbest, most depressing show on TV. It’s the ultimate insult to music and to performers," he tells the magazine. "Every time I catch a glimpse of young singers busting their guts trying to win somebody’s attention, who is rudely sitting with their back to them... I feel sick."

He also adds that he hopes the "vile show dies a natural death very soon," also adding that he didn't enjoy seeing Tom Jones appearing on such a show.

Brian May claims the 'spinning chair' format is rude and an insult to musicians

The Voice has struggled in TV ratings during its 2013 series, losing out to ITV rival Britain's Got Talent every week. It was recently announced that the show's live finals would be broadcast on Friday nights - removing it from the ratings race altogether.
