Disclosure compare their forthcoming debut album to Daft Punk

Duo say they use vocals in the same way

  • Wavves - Afraid of Heights: Lo-fi fuzz is the best kind of summer music - bubblegum-lite with just the right amount of attitude, too. Wavves' fourth studio album, Afraid of Heights, is sunny and slack and makes you feel like you're skipping work to drink beer at the beach with friends - even if you're still stuck in the office. Out now.

Up-and-coming dance duo Disclosure have compared their forthcoming debut album, Settle, to Daft Punk.

The two Lawrence brothers, Guy and Howard, spoke to Spin about the style of their first studio album and said that it was similar to daft Punk in its use of vocals.

“[We compared] it to Daft Punk in the sense that it’s a vocal album,” said Howard.

“There aren’t many dance album with full vocals. We don’t really know why. You need the vocals to capture your tune and lift it now and again.”

The pair also discussed the influen§ces they drew on when beginning to make music.

“I was listening to a lot of funk because I’m a bass player,” Howard explained.

“I was also into a lot of singer-songwriters like Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, because it’s really clever songwriting.”

Guy, on the other hand, explained that he drew heavily on the US hip hop scene.

“I was listening to American hip hop mainly, that;s what got me into the idea of making music electronically, making beats and stuff like that. DJ premier, Gang Starr Busta Rhymes.. just J. Dilla, basically.”

Settle will be released on June 3

Settle is due for release on June 3 and features vocal offerings from Aluna Francis on ‘White Noise’ and Eliza Doolittle on ‘You & Me, both of which have already been released as singles. Also on the album are label-mate Jessie Ware and exciting newcomers London Grammar.
