Too late for Liam Gallagher? Big stars destroying their own legacies

Huge music careers marred by poor life choices

  • Madonna: Still clinging to to title fo Queen of Pop, though tenuously, Madonna's now made more bad records than good records. Her determination that older woman shouldn't have to hide their bodies away is admirable, but the images of a 50-year-old Madge with her legs as wide apart as possible is one that will haunt a generation. It's something that you just can't unsee.

There's nothnig worse than seeing a once-great musical figure slip into a life of nonsense and commercial desperation, but it happens with upsetting regularity.

Since Oasis split in 2009, Liam Gallagher has made waves with Beady Eye, but the rock frontman is a one-man tsunami machine when it comes to spouting tabloid-friendly quotes - mostly thinly veiled barbs directed at brother Noel.

So how will Liam be remembered? As a frontman of one (maybe two) great rock bands - or an angry man with too many opinions to share? He certainly wouldn't be the first musician to throw away a legacy with poor life choices if it is the latter, that's for sure.

In some cases it's a matter of a musician continuing with a career in music long after they should've have let it go, in others it's a case of a musical icon embarking on embarrassing money making endeavors that become more memorable than their musical achievements.

Gigwise takes a look at some of the musical greats who've ruined their legacy and will be remembered for the silly decisions they made after having a great career.
